WHO AM I?

I like to be known primarily as a husband to my wonderful wife of 44 years, a father to my 6 children, and "grandpa" to my 18 grandchildren.

As a kid I grew up living in the country, milking cows, riding a horse, and running free. Those are my roots. After I retired I wanted to return to my roots far from the big city, but Sunnyvale is as "Rural" as my wife will allow. Let's preserve what Rural Character we have left.

The "rural" style house I'd prefer to build for my family in Sunnyvale, but one which is NOT allowed by our current ordinances. Per the UDO, all structures must be 90% masonary.

How's that for regulatory overreach?

As can be seen, rural country living is in my blood. I miss the mountains and care free living of my youth, but if one must live in an urban environment, Sunnyvale is the place I choose. Let's do all we can to preserve its rural character and not turn it into just another wealthy suburb of a big city with masonry houses that all look the same.

Emery Powell is and has always been committed to serving his fellow man. As the president of his neighborhood association in Dallas he led the fight to ensure HUD housing did not negatively impact home owners. As an ordained volunteer minister he has spent many years counseling and helping people in need.  After retiring  early from his engineering and consulting work, he and his wife volunteered for missionary work in the Caribbean and Africa, living away from home and serving for four years at their own expense because they so strongly believe that people matter. "We help people best when we listen, lift up, and help people, one individual at a time."

Similarly, preserving the small town friendly rural values and character of Sunnyvale is best done with a listening ear and enabling each individual to do and be their best, with neighbors helping neighbors, and living the Golden Rule. This requires principle centered leadership from the town council, open and better town communication, greater community input and involvement in how we govern, and far less regulatory overreach.

Principles Matter. People Matter. Our Constitutional Rights Matter.  I will fight for your rights. Let's elect a true constitutional conservative who knows what liberty means and will work to keep us free from governmental regulatory overreach. Let's elect a former Air Force officer willing to die fighting to protect our life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness. Let's elect a country boy who knows what "rural" means, and will fight to preserve it.

Elect Emery Powell
