It is with regret that I must withdraw from the 2019  town council election. My wife and I have accepted a call from the Lord to serve as missionaries for the next 2 years. Having just recently returned from a 2 yr mission to Africa, we were a bit surprised to be asked to serve again so soon.  Hopefully someone else will fill my shoes as a conservative voice on the council.

WHO AM I?

First a husband to a wonderful wife of 44 years, then a father to 6 children, and last but not least "Grandpa" to 18 grandchildren.

These are Emery's real priorities next to honoring God and serving him.  Emery Powell has always been committed to serving his fellow man, and he is currently representing the Sunnyvale precinct as a delegate to the Texas Republican convention in June. As the president of his neighborhood association in Dallas he led the fight to ensure HUD housing did not negatively impact home owners. As an ordained volunteer minister he has spent many years counseling and helping people in need. After retiring  early from his engineering and consulting work, he and his wife volunteered for missionary work in the Caribbean and Africa, living away from home and serving for four years at their own expense because they so strongly believe that people matter. "We help people best when we listen and lift up one individual at a time."

Similarly, preserving the small town friendly rural values and character of Sunnyvale is best done with a listening ear and enabling each individual to do and be their best, with neighbors helping neighbors and living the Golden Rule. This requires principle centered leadership from the town council, open and better town communication, greater community input and involvement in how we govern, and far less regulatory overreach.

Principles Matter.  People Matter. Our Constitutional Rights Matter.  Let's elect a true constitutional conservative who knows what liberty, free from regulatory overreach means. Let's elect a former Air Force officer willing to die fighting to protect our life, liberty, and a pursuit of happiness. Let's elect a country boy who knows what "rural" means, and will fight to preserve it.

"The greatness of a society can be measured not by how much influence and power its government exerts, but rather by how much

Liberty and Opportunity it ensures for its People."

MY  PRIORITIES

  • Principle Centered Leadership   (What are our core values and principles?)

  • Govern in accordance with Conservative Constitutional Principles

  • Protect the Constitutional Rights of each individual resident of Sunnyvale

  • Reduce the town’s current regulatory overreach

  • Preserve our rural character by

    • Maintaining an absolute minimum density of one residence per acre, tree lined streets, pastures, and open spaces. Absolutely no new multi-family housing.

    • Encouraging a diversity of housing styles, parks, trails, and Sunnyvale recreational use of our flood plain and lake shore.

    • Encouraging a friendly spirit of community association with neighbors helping neighbors

  • Manage commercial and residential development consistent with our rural character, at a sustainable pace, and ensure it pays for its entire impact on our infrastructure and schools

  • Improve the communication and transparency of town government

  • Improve the process of democracy and community involvement
